About Catherine Hickey
Catherine Hickey is a distinguished artist and educator known for her kinetic, high-contrast style. Inspired by nature, culture, and human experiences, Catherine's artworks connect her to her community. Her portfolio includes many media as she explores expression and synthesis while depicting the people and scenes of her life. Through her own artistic process, Catherine searches for a way to bring authentic artmaking into her classroom. Covering her perspectives on classroom management, methods of instruction, the role and responsibility of the students, and her role as a teacher, Catherine Hickey outlines her student-centered approach to teaching which aims to balance the value of traditional medium and design instruction with the preservation of the innate artist to empower her students the most opportunity to develop the 21st century skills a high quality art education is uniquely capable of providing.
